Charles Burr Ln Bridge - Opelousas, Louisiana

This is a very haunted bridge that all locals know about. Add night many people have seen A apparition of a old man holding a lantern at the bridge. Many people driving along the road and filled that something is in the backseat of the vehicle and look in the rear view mirror and see a shadow outline of a human body sitting on the back seat. One time I was walking down this road and I was hearing drums and no house was around. Me and my friends went down this road many times and got out at the bridge and we always feel uneasy and hear strange noises.

Bellamy Bridge - Marianna, Florida

This is perhaps one of the best-known “haunted” places in Florida. Bellamy Bridge is an old metal bridge dating from 1914, but it is supposedly haunted by Elizabeth Bellamy, who is said to have died nearby nearly 80 years before that. The legend says it was her wedding day, and her dress caught fire – she ran through the house in a panic, setting most of the place alight, and then jumped into the river in an attempt to quash the flames. She survived only a few more days, and died an agonizing death.

That’s the quick version… there’s much, much more information available elsewhere if you want to get into the nitty-gritty of the legend.

Anyway, people swear they see Elizabeth’s ghost – sometimes bright white and on fire – on or near this rusty old bridge.

You can’t drive here – you have to take the Bellamy Bridge Heritage Trail by foot, and its only open during the summer months when the water levels are low enough. Check the trail’s website for maps and parking information.

Sunshine Skyway Bridge - Terra Ceia, Florida

The most iconic bridge in Florida is beautiful… but it is also deadly. It replaced a bridge that partially collapsed in 1980, killing several people. But its best-known as one of the most popular places in Florida to commit suicide. More than 200 people have jumped to their deaths from the bridge since it was built. At least one of them seems to have stuck around. She is a young blonde female who will climb into your car on one end of the bridge, and will disappear before you reach the other.

Note that it is illegal to stop anywhere on the bridge (one imagines, because of the prevalence of suicides) and if you do you will more than likely find a policeman approach within a minute.

Bloody Bucket Bridge - Wauchula, Florida

This spooky story starts more than a century ago with a slave midwife who was concerned that parents were having more babies than they could support. She is said to have smothered many babies and buried their bodies near the bridge. After many babies were killed, the midwife began to find that her bucket would mysteriously fill up with blood, and she kept having to go to the river to empty the buckets of blood. On one trip to the river, she lost her footing and drowned.

The river is said to have run red with blood for days after that, and that gave this spot its spooky nickname. Folks say the river will still run red when the moon is full, and some witnesses have heard ghostly babies crying nearby, or the sound of struggling and splashing in the river.
