Suicide Bridge - Colorado Street Bridge - Pasadena, California

Colorado Street Bridge, constructed over the Arroyo Seco River in 1912, is also known as Suicide Bridge. The nickname was acquired because of the around 100 folks said to have committed suicide by jumping from it, starting in 1919. Reports say that almost 50 of the jumpers died during the Great Depression, and at least one legend blames the bridge’s troubled past on a worker who fell and landed in wet cement below the bridge and left to die. Ghost stories abound in these parts, of course: The apparitions seen here range from a man in wire-rim glasses to a woman in a flowing robe, who leaps from the top of a parapet.

Wolf Bayou Bridge - Mama Lou's Bridge - North Little Rock, Arkansas

The bridge was replaced in 2005, but it was the old one from which local legends arose. Folks say that a woman and her newborn died here when she drove off the bridge. Rumor has it that those who go there at night and shout “Mama Lou, I’ve got your baby!” will have trouble with their car or perhaps see a floating woman in white near the bridge.

Ghost Bridge - Florence, Alabama

Properly called Jackson Ford Bridge, there are currently plans to demolish the bridge due to vandalism and decay making for a safety hazard. Of course if people start dying, that will just add to its reputation as a haunted spot, so possibly Darwinism should be allowed to take place here. There are several rumors as to why it is called Ghost Bridge by the locals, some say the eerie white mist that rises up from the creek also gave rise to the name, others claim a runaway slave was hanged from the bridge during the Civil War.

Cry Baby Hollow Bridge - Hartselle, Alabama

Various urban legends have arisen around the claims that Cry Baby Hollow and the bridge going across it are haunted. A baby is said to have died there, either from murder, a car accident, a wagon accident from pioneer days, or variations on the theme. People claim to hear the baby crying and claim their car shakes if they go across the bridge (which of course has nothing to do with the engineering).
