Illinois College - Jacksonville, Illinois

After failing to be accepted into a sorority, a girl committed suicide in her room; that room is now haunted by her ghost. Residents of that room can leave and come back to an unlocked door. The lights, music, television, and curling irons will all be on though they were turned off before. Things move locations or will be missing for a few days without explanation. The television would also turns off randomly while one is watching it.

This house, which dates from the early nineteenth century, has rounded exterior corners, and has been renovated for its current use. On many occasions, the sheriff deputies who stay after hours to do paperwork have reported hearing strange noises.

Devil’s Road - Monmouth, Illinois

The road is marked by the sign of the devil–666–atop a dead end sign at the end of the street. Allegedly, the grim reaper stands in the middle of the road as cars approach. Just as the car is about to mow him over, the reaper vanishes into a puff of smoke. When the victims return the next day, burn marks tell exactly where the reaper appeared. Also on the road is Haunted Bridge. Legend says that young couple came around the curve too fast and fell of the bridge to a watery grave. It is alleged that if one stops his car on the bridge, he will be guided to safety. Bare footprints have been reported on rainy nights. Many others have also put powdered sugar on their car and reported hand prints after leaving the bridge.

The Brown Mansion - Pittsfield, Illinois

After exposing himself to children and having sex with animals, Tim Brown was given the choice of joining the army or serving seven years in prison. Rather than being punished, Brown used a copperhead snake to kill himself in one of the mansion’s upstairs rooms. Brown’s nude silhouette can sometimes be seen in the upper left window. Furniture is often reported to be heard during the night, and sobbing is often reported on Saturdays–the day of his death.

Minnow Bucket - Wilmington, Illinois

An old man named “Minnow Bucket” was beaten to death by two young men after flaunting his money during a card game. Minnow Bucket is said to walk along the riverbank–of which he was once caretaker– and talks to fishermen about their catches and what lures to use. However, he often gives bad advice.
